The Best Skincare Routine For Eyes

The Best Skincare Routine For Eyes

, by Judith Storm, 2 min reading time

The biggest waste of money (in my opinion) is an eye cream!  There is no difference between a cream that is marketed as an “eye cream” and a basic moisturiser – just look on the back on the packet!  Dark circles will not be solved by using a cream and often requires other intervention.

Keep the eye area hydrated by using a good moisturiser like the Dr Storm day/night moisturiser and remember to wear SPF..and a hat outside!  If you have a specific concern about the appearance of the eyes or under-eye area, best thing to do is to come in to clinic for an assessment.

For fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes topical tretinoin or botox have evidence base but other than that just use your normal moisturiser all over the face including around my eyes!Tretinoin is the only thing that has any evidence topically.

Tretinoin is effective and can be used around the eyes.  However, retinoids can create inflammation and impose on the glands' ability to regenerate when injured.

As a result, medical advice recommends avoiding the application of any retinoid to the eyelid skin (despite the many over-the-counter retinol eye creams available and the marketing that associates them!). Prolonged application can lead to dry eye issues and inflammation of the lid border.

Apply your cream where you feel bone under the skin, theo orbital rim. If you find the skin around your eyes irritated, try applying the Dr Storm nighttime moisturiser around the eyes like goggles.

This will stop the prescription cream from spreading onto this sensitive skin.

Why is tretinoin so good!?

What does it do?

Prescription creams like tretinoin are the only creams that can actually change the structure and function of the skin!

5 ways tretinoin can improve your skin:

  1. Reduce fine lines and wrinkles…with time (nothing happens overnight!)
  2. Boosts collagen production
  3. Makes your skin appear smoother and brighter due to the changes it has on the skin’s most outer layer
  4. Improves skin tone…if you have pigmentation hydroquinone can also be added to your prescription to remove this
  5. Clears pores…Tretinoin can help acne by helping to keep pores clear from comedones by reducing the tendency of cells to “stick” together and is anti-inflammatory.

Tretinoin should be used every night during all seasons for life for best results! Your prescription may be altered depending on how you tolerate it (one of the benefits of making your cream in a lab bespoke for you!) or how your skin changes but you want to use tretinoin continuously.

It is always used at night as it is broken down by UV, at the highest dose you can tolerate (but it is not a competition).
